Hey everyone!
This weekend was my final Mass at Sacred Heart in Joliet. My time there was incredible! I grew so much from getting to know this small-but-mighty community and I hope I was able to have a positive impact on them.
Take a listen to my homily:
I based my homily on the readings (duh): https://bible.usccb.org/bible/readings/061321.cfm
I also incorporated one my favorite songs, “Can’t Help But Wonder Where I’m Bound”, which I first heard on Johnny Cash’s final album, American VI: Ain’t No Grave. I love the way he sings it. Ever since I first heard it the summer before I left for seminary, it’s been a real help to me in times of transition. (Except the verse about the girl with the lips like sherry wine. (they were more like chardonnay (just kidding))).
And the folks that I meet ain’t always kind
Some are bad, some are good
Some have done the best they could
And some have tried to ease my troubled mind
Can’t help but wonder where I’m bound
And the people that I see look as worried as can be
And it looks like they are wandering too
Can’t help but wonder where I’m bound
And you wish that you were rambling too
Nail your shoes to the kitchen floor, lace ’em up and bar the door
Thank your stars for the roof that’s over you
Can’t help but wonder where I’m bound
