“Communio” Reflection, and some updates

Hi everyone!

First, Please take a listen to the reflection I gave to start adoration at the Communio night of prayer at St. Michael in Wheaton, IL.

The book I mention in the talk is Sophia House by Michael D. O’Brien.

The dedication to the book reads, “For those whose sacrifice is hidden in the heart of God, those whose “small” choices shift the balance of the world.”

The C.S. Lewis quote is, “A man cannot diminish the glory of God by refusing to worship him any more than a prisoner can put out the sun by scribbling the word ‘darkness’ on the wall of his cell.” The Problem of Pain

The final quote, “You might turn the page or you might close the book but the truth is still truth even if you don’t look”, is from the titular song of the album “Into the Lantern Waste” by Sarah Sparks, available on Spotify.

Second, Please pray for my friend Deacon Tony Klein from the Diocese of Sioux Falls, South Dakota who was ordained a transitional deacon on Thursday, Oct 3 by Bishop Deeley inside St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome. Deacon Tony has been one of my best friends since college seminary, and I’m so proud of him!

Third, please remember the priests of the Diocese of Joliet in your prayers this week as we gather in St. Charles for a week of convocation with Bishop Conlon. We’ll be discussing a wide variety of pastoral topics, as well as getting updates on and discussing some diocesan business. It will also be a time of rest, of prayer, and of fraternity for us. Cardinal Francis George, a great hero of mine, told us once that priestly fraternity is the root of the priest’s pastoral charity.

That’s all for now!
