Divine Mercy and an Announcement

Hi everyone, and a very blessed Divine Mercy Sunday to you all. I hope that the Easter Octave was fruitful and joyful.

Here’s my homily from Divine Mercy Sunday at the Cathedral: (if you’re seeing this in the email update, I think you’ll need to click onto the post to find the video)

In order to know the beauty of mercy, we must first experience the arrow of justice. Sin always wounds, but God delights in showing mercy. Mercy is not a complacent ignorance of the reality of sin, and there is more to justice than rigid, impersonal wrath. In my sin I say, “go away, God.” In his love God says, “Come to me anyway.”

In addition, this weekend I announced at all the Masses that Bishop Hicks has appointed me the parochial vicar (assistant pastor) at Saints Peter and Paul parish in downtown Naperville. Exactly 10 years ago, I left North Central College and Naperville to enter the seminary, which was a really hard decision. I am so excited to come back to such a special place for me.

I have absolutely loved my 3 years at the Cathedral and Sacred Heart in Joliet. I have grown and changed so much in these years, and I am more convinced than ever that the priesthood is the life for me. I am so grateful to the people of these parishes who have welcomed me and made me a part of their families.
I will remain the chaplain at Chesterton Academy in Lisle, and my new assignment in Naperville takes effect on July 1, 2021. Here’s a video of the announcement:
