It’s not what you know…

The ever popular phrase “It’s not what you know, it’s who you know” comes to mind today. Not because I don’t know anything about what I’m doing, but because I would never have gotten where I am without the people.

I moved into a new office today at Oswego High School which, for those who know me, has always been a dream of mine. It’s funny because I saw that dream becoming a reality moreso after college, a few years of teaching, and so on…not exactly less than 6 months after graduating from OHS; but I’m not complaining.

It’s a nice place…not too much up on the walls or anything (not yet, anyway), but it’s a fitting place for my Character Counts! Coalition office. I am excited to see what happens here and what changes and new things I can bring to this place and the district, CC! and otherwise.

When I chatted Dr. Marcinko on Facebook about potentially using a room in her student services suite, I had no high hopes to speak of for that endeavor. So, natrually, I was relieved when she said yes. It was a nice little room…I shared it with the master schedual board and the SS conference room. Since I’m in college, that was all the space I thought I’d need. Well, what do you know…about 2 months into the school year, the office (a more “officey office”) opened up, so I jumped on board. Next thing I know, there’s an orange name plate outside the door that reads, “Mr. Adorjan.”

Mr. Adorjan? That’s something everyone’s always called me, but I never thought I’d see it here, much less outside of an office.

So, as I sit here looking around, I’m silently thanking the people here who have, for so long, supported me, laughed with me, and put up with me through my four years of high school. This place to me had always felt like home…and now knowing that I can come back in a different, sometimes confusing, capacity and receive what I’ve received and have done what’s been done is truly remarkable.

There are, of course, a the naysayers, I’m sure. But, as some politician said, If you’ve made enemies, you’re doing something right.

Until next time,
Go Panthers!
Go Cardinals!
Character Counts! Everywhere, All the Time!

Enjoy life,
Ryan
