Fear of the Void, Diffusive Love, and Yankee Candles | 1st Sunday of Advent 2019

Horror Vacui – abhorrence of the void.

Bonum diffusivum sui est – Goodness is diffusive of itself.

St. Paul tells the Philippians to stay away from orgies and lust, rivalry and jealousy. These, and so many more, are things we use to fill the void left by our human nature. We fear the void, the empty feelings and the moments of solitude when we’re stuck with only ourselves and our thoughts. Goodness, the height of goodness is love, is diffusive of itself; it can’t help but pour over and spill out. Love knows we are afraid of and avoiding the void; he can’t help but come and fill it.

When he comes, will we notice?
